I support community paths. They are wonderful for recreation. They reduce air pollution from motor vehicles. However, locating any community path — including Belmont’s — must emphasize making sure that neighborhoods surrounding them are safe and secure.
Because I have attended the presentations on the Belmont Community Path and am intimately familiar with the proposals, I understand the details and intricacies of locating and designing Belmont’s community path. Even so, it would be premature to support a final route prior to the upcoming March meeting.
As a professional engineer, I can say with confidence that the information and presentation by K3 Landscape Architecture and Pare Corporation is cogent and thorough. That said, I have expressed concern about drainage issues from the paved surfaces at the public meetings and hope to see solutions when the options and challenges relating to the easterly proposed route are addressed at the next meeting.
